AIMS & OUTCOMES A survey of what options are available for those who want to mitigate the prospective burden of inheritance tax on death. DESCRIPTION In the aftermath of the Chancellor's infamous 'IHT raid on trusts' last year - and indeed the pre-owned assets regime from 2004/05 - clients may be forgiven for thinking that the dice are loaded against them to such an extent that there is little point in devoting much thought (and cost, on professionals' fees) to the subject of IHT mitigation. But asset values (especially houses) continue to rise and inactivity will not make the problem disappear. Certainly, there remain well established, may be not 'exciting' but nonetheless often very effective methods for reducing the IHT bill. This is the thrust behind a new Book on Estate Planning which Matthew Hutton will be publishing in September 2007 in both electronic and hard copy form. This presentation gives us a 'sneak preview' of the Book in reviewing the main options open to clients, while further presentations for CPD4Lawyers this year will pick up specific topics. | ![Lecture Description]() |
