1. What is an online web seminar?| Top

An online seminar is a presentation over the Internet using such tools as Power Point, an interactive whiteboard, websites and text messaging.

The presenter presents in real time and speaks to you using VOIP. (Voice over internet phone or protocol) through your computer speakers or headset.

You use an ordinary Windows (95 or newer) PC with a sound card, Internet Explorer or Netscape browser and speakers to listen, ask questions, do quizzes and interact with fellow delegates over an Internet connection.

You will be able to evaluate your seminar and, just like face-to-face lectures, for CPD/CPE purposes, a record is kept of your attendance.

For more details on requirements select "What will I need?"

3. What happens once I have booked my seminar?| Top
Once payment has been received your booking will be confirmed by email and you will be sent your joining instructions, user name and password.

Confirmation is made within 24hours during office hours Monday to Friday.

4. How do I set my computer up?| Top
Once your booking is confirmed you will be sent a link to a website to do a “System Check” and set up your computer for the seminar. A small download is required but this will not affect the operation of your computer.

You will be taken through a few easy instructions which will prepare your computer for the web seminar.

It is your responsibility to check your computer system and set up your computer in good time for the seminar. We suggest you set up your computer at the latest the day before and log on at least 10 minutes before the start of your web seminar.

CPD4LAWYERS will not be held responsible for your late arrival or non attendance at the seminar.

5. My computer freezes during the web seminar. What should I do?| Top
To ensure a good experience in your web seminar it is advised that you close all other Windows applications before you log in.

If your computer should freeze during a presentation, don't worry.

Exit from the classroom (click the X in the top right hand corner) and re-log in.

If you cannot close the classroom window, use CTRL, ALT, DEL instead. When a small window opens, wait a couple of seconds and then choose "End Task" ensuring that the classroom application is selected. Then re-load the website that you have been given and re-log into the classroom.

If you should miss any of the presentation you will be able to access a recording after the event. Just drop us a line and we will send you instructions how to access this recording.

6. The sound is too loud or too soft| Top
It is important to set your speaker volume to a comfortable level for the classroom. Too loud and you will find it uncomfortable to listen. Too soft and you will not be able to hear what people have to say.

Use the Audio wizard when setting up your computer during your "System Check" to set your speakers' volume to a comfortable level.

During the web seminar you can use the Audio wizard (select "Tools>Audio wizard") to adjust sound levels. Alternatively adjust the volume using the volume control on your speakers.

Depending on how people set up their microphone levels, inevitably there will be some variation in how loud people speak. The simplest thing is to adjust the volume of your speakers in this case.

7. My microphone level is not quite right| Top
It is important to set your microphone to a comfortable level for the classroom. Too soft and people will not be able to hear you. Too loud and it will be uncomfortable for the other delegates.

Use the Audio wizard when setting up your computer during your "System Check" to set your microphone to a comfortable level.

During the web seminar you can use the Audio wizard (select "Tools>Audio wizard") to adjust your microphone level.

8. How do I ask a question?| Top
To ask a question you must first "raise your hand".

You can raise your hand by clicking on the "hand" symbol in the Tool Bar of the classroom. (You will be shown how!) The presenter will then tell "pass the floor to you".

Hold the Control Key down on your keyboard (it is on the left or right hand corner of your keyboard) and speak into your microphone.

9. I cannot attend the seminar but would like to see the presentation.
What can I do?
| Top
If you wish you can attend the recording of the seminar. You can then play the recording at your convenience.

The cost of attending a recorded seminar is the same as the live lecture. See individual lectures for pricing.

Use our booking form to book the recorded seminar.

For CPD purposes you will need to answer a small number of multiple choice questions which will be available to you on the Internet. The success rate for CPD purposes is 60%. The website address for the recording and for these questions will be emailed to you once we have received your booking form.

10. Will it work through a firewall?| Top
Yes.

If you should have difficulties operating the classroom through your firewall either close the firewall during the seminar or efforts should be made to open port 1709.

11. Are you accredited with the Law Society?| Top

No we have not applied for accreditation. We do however comply with Law Society guidelines and solicitors are entitled to your CPD hours so long as you don't exceed 12 hours of CPD hours using computer based learning.
